When customers choose Aerus’ ActivePure® Technology, they are choosing award-winning technology with roots in NASA engineering.

Units with ActivePure® Technology pull free oxygen and water molecules in the air through ActivePure’s® patented honeycomb matrix. The technology creates powerful oxidizers, known as ActivePure® Molecules, that are then released back into the room, where they seek and destroy DNA and RNA viruses including SARS-CoV-2 (novel coronavirus), the cause of COVID-19, Swine Flu (H1N1), Avian Bird Flu (H5N8), Hepatitis A (HAV) and MS2 bacteriophage, regardless of their size, on surfaces and in the air.

Unlike Aerus’ purifiers, traditional capture-based purifiers rely on a HEPA filter, carbon filter, ultraviolet light, or passive PCO to reduce contaminants in an indoor space. By design, such units are only partially effective at reducing a limited range of airborne pathogens and are completely ineffective at treating pathogens on surfaces. No other solutions address surface viruses or contaminants like Aerus’ purifiers do.

What Make ActivePure Unique

Trade Secret Photocatalyst Formula + Deposition Method – Aerus has spent many years and millions of dollars on R&D, coming up with the most effective combination of doping elements and deposition method to ensure that the efficiency of the photocatalytic reaction is orders of magnitude higher than that of a simple TiO2 photocatalyst.

Patented honeycomb matrix – rather than surrounding a UV bulb with a photocatalyst-coated wire mesh, as is done in most PCO implementations, Aerus ActivePure technology uses a patented honeycomb matrix that combines stacked, angled tubes coating with a proprietary photocatalyst alongside mirrored surfaces to increase the surface area available for photocatalytic reaction by orders of magnitude.

UV Bulb Coating – Aerus ultraviolet bulbs use a specialized coating that both ensures that there is no ozone production and is able to double the expected lifetime.

Results – Aerus ActivePure technology has been shown to produce no harmful VOCs, and have incredibly high kill rates both in air and on surfaces.

How ActivePure® Technology is Different

Air purifiers generally fall into two categories: Active-Based or Capture-Based

Active-based: As the name suggests, ActivePure® Technology is an active-based disinfection solution, which enables Aerus devices with ActivePure® Technology to not only disinfect and purify the air but surfaces as well. Aerus’ patented technology uses free oxygen and water molecules and converts them into powerful oxidizers, known as ActivePure® Molecules, that are released back into the room, filling the interior space with ActivePure® Molecules that continuously seek out and destroy the room’s pathogens and contaminants in real time, 24 hours a day.

Capture-based: air purifiers do not work in real time and are only effective against the contaminants that are captured and killed through a HEPA filter, carbon or ultraviolet light. These units, by design, are only partially effective at reducing some of the airborne pathogens and are not effective at treating pathogens on surfaces. Other devices, such as bi-polar ionization, have questionable results as indicated by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

ActivePure Technology vs Competitors

Testing of the ActivePure Technology® was conducted by one of the world’s top biosafety testing facilities, the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), which primarily tests for the U.S. military and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
